Dubai: Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Deputy Chief of Dubai Police, said the media has played a role in helping solve certain cases by creating awareness.

He cited an incident when a newborn baby boy was abducted from Dubai Hospital in 2002 when his mother had gone to the bathroom.

When the news was reported in the media, the person responsible got scared and handed the infant to her neighbours, who already had an idea about the case through the newspaper. They handed the baby to the police.

However, not everything that is stated by news agencies is correct, he said, and stressed that there is a strong negative campaign targeting Dubai since it has made significant strides to become a global city.
