Two men arrested for smuggling and selling drugs
Dubai: Cooperation between anti-drug departments in the country led to the arrest of two dangerous drug dealers last week, a senior police official said.
Major General Abdul Jalil Mahdi Al Asmawi, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department at Dubai Police, said on Wednesday that an Emirati man and a man from the Republic of Comoros were arrested in possession of a large amount of hashish and 5,000 Tramadol pills.
He said the police received information that the men who lived in Al Zubair area of Sharjah were selling drugs there.
“A joint team from police departments in the country was able to arrest the suspects red-handed in the early hours of the morning on June 5 in the area of Al Zubair in Sharjah,” said Major General Al Asmawi.
He said the first suspect, identified as A.A.M., a 31-year-old unemployed Emirati, was arrested earlier in 2009 in Dubai and was also arrested in 2011 in Sharjah for selling and smuggling drugs.
The other accused is a 21-year-old high school student. He was also arrested earlier for causing a traffic accident while under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
The suspects had brought the drugs from an Asian country. They have been referred to the public prosecution.
