Dubai: Four people — two women and two men — have been arrested by Dubai Police on suspicion of stealing Dh2 million from a bank customer.

Police say this is the first time women have been arrested on suspicion of robbery in Dubai

Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police said on Sunday that the robbery happened in Deira.
He said all four were of Arab nationality and teamed up to carry out the robbery. “This is the first time that women are part of robbery in Dubai,” he said.
Lieutenant General Dahi said that the women in the gang were thought to have targeted bank customers and monitored their movements, then passed the information to the men.
One man would snatch the money from bank customers while the other waited for him on a motorcycle to escape from the scene. The women would take a taxi.
Colonel Salem Khalifa Al Rumaithi, deputy director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation (CID), said that the crime happened on March 5.
The victim, identified as G.K. from India, told police that he withdrew Dh2 million from a company account at a bank in Deira. The victim was accompanied an accountant from the same company.
He kept the money inside a plastic bag before leaving the bank and walked to his company office in the same area. Suddenly, someone attacked him from behind and snatched the bag and ran away.
The robber had someone waiting for him on a motorbike and both fled the scene before he could do anything. He could not see their faces because they were wearing helmets.
Lt. Col. Saeed Al Ayala, Director of the Investigation Department, said that the next day police formed a team to investigate. The next morning, police received a tip off and within seven hours the suspects were arrested.
The first suspect identified as R.M., was arrested in an apartment in Deira along with two Arab women.
Lieutenant General Dahi called on bank customers to take extra caution, not to withdraw large amounts of money and not to go to the bank alone.
