Ras Al Khaimah: Two men, accused of multiple thefts from cars in Ras Al Khaimah, claimed they could not remember the exact number of cars they stole from because they targeted so many vehicles.

The case was heard before Ras Al Khaimah Criminal court on Wednesday morning, a judiciary official at Ras Al Khaimah court told Gulf News.

Presiding Judge Yousuf Rajab chaired the session.

One of the suspects were described as being of Arab nationality and 18 years old and the other, a 24-year-old Asian.

Both told the judge that they could not remember the exact number of cars from which they had stolen valuables.

The suspects admitted to conducting their crimes at night, while the cars’ owners were asleep, so they could not hear them, an official said.

They entered garages and smashed car windows and then stole what they found, an official said.

Prosecutors claim the men formed a gang and conducted many car thefts in different parts of Ras Al Khaimah.

Officials said that the case dated back to earlier in summer 2012, when police received numerous complaints from residents in different parts of the emirate, saying that their car window had been smashed and that valuable items were missing.

Police formed teams and arrested the two suspects red-handed, while they were trying to carry out a theft, both under the influence of alcohol.

They confessed to the charge, the case was transferred to the public prosecution and to the competent court which decided to adjourn the case until September.
