Sharjah: Two Indian men have each been sentenced to six months in jail by the Sharjah Sharia Court of First Instance for stealing from warehouse. The two men will be deported after serving their jail terms.

The public prosecutor charged S.R. and S.P., both aged 29, with stealing from a company in Sharjah. They also destroyed the stolen items. According to the charges they also broke into the warehouse at night with intent to steal.

According to court records, the owner of a contracting company in Sharjah Industrial Area 11 informed the police that his warehouse had been broken into and 1,000 boxes of nails worth Dh16,000 had been stolen.

According to court record, one of the accused was initially arrested and he admitted that he had accomplices in the theft.

S.R. told police that he and S.P. stole from the warehouse at 7am before the employees reported for work.

S.R. admitted his crime to police and the public prosecutor, but denied it in court, and this made the court suspicious.

The other accused were not present in court. S.R. was sentenced to six months in jail and deportation.

The court stated that according to Sharia law, a person will have his or her hand cut off if they steal even a quarter dirham, but this does not apply to the accused because he admitted to his crime early in the investigations.

According to court papers the accused was given only six months in jail followed by deportation.
