Dubai: Two drug dealers have been arrested following a tip-off, said a senior police official.

Major General Abdul Jalil Mahdi Al Asmawi, Director of the Department for Combating Narcotics at Dubai Police, said the two Arab men, who are accused of being involved in smuggling and selling drugs in the country, were arrested while attempting to sell the illegal substances.

The suspects were identified as M.S, 46, who is jobless, and H.A., also 46, who works as businessman. Police claim both are drug addicts and were under the influence at the time of their arrests, which Al Asmawi said came after a tip that the one of the suspects, who stays in Al Mamar, possessed and used drugs.

Al Asmawi claimed the first suspect was caught while he was waiting in the entrance of the building where he used to live and officers found “a large amount of drugs, including 1975 Tramadol pills, which were found in his possession hidden inside a bag he was carrying.”

“The suspect hid the drugs inside a sweet box inside the bag,” Al Asmawi said. Four rolls of hashish and heroin were also inside the box.

Al Asmawi said M.S claimed that the drugs belonged to him but were given to him by someone he does not know and that this man was in the country on a visit visa to look for work.

Al Asmawi urged the public to call the 24-hour toll-free number (800400400) or to contact the officer on duty at 050-5516218 or by email at dpan@dubaipolice.gov.ae to report any matter relating to drug abuse in the country.

“We will deal with the informers in a confidential way,” Al Asmawi said.
