Dubai: Two men have denied involvement in a case of breaking into a pharmacy in Jumeirah and stealing Dh6,000 while the cashier was away praying.
Prosecutors have charged the two suspects, a 41-year-old Jordanian visitor and a 55-year-old Syrian jeweller, with breaking into the pharmacy and stealing money from the cash register.
"We swear to God we do not know anything about this and have got nothing to do with it… we are seeking justice," contended 41-year-old S.A. when he defended himself before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.
When Presiding Judge Hamad Abdul Latif Abdul Jawad levelled the charges against the defendants, S.A. and 55-year-old M.H. both said: "Not guilty."
According to the arraignment sheet, S.A. used a screwdriver to break into the pharmacy and carry out the burglary, while M.H. acted as the lookout.
A Jordanian assistant pharmacist testified that the incident took place when he went to perform the maghrib prayer.
"I closed the pharmacy door and went to pray. When I returned, I realised that the door was partly open. I rushed inside to check the register. I discovered that somebody broke into the place and stole Dh6,000 from the register," claimed the assistant pharmacist when he was questioned by prosecutors.
A first policeman testified that he participated in arresting S.A.
"He admitted to me that he carried out the heist in collaboration with M.H. He also guided the law enforcement officers to the place of the pharmacy," alleged the first policeman.
Meanwhile, prosecution records said the defendants claimed they were outside the country when the incident happened.
