Fujairah: The Fujairah Traffic Court has sentenced an Afghan national to six months in jail and fined him Dh600,000 in diya (blood money) for causing the death of three Emiratis in a traffic accident.

The court ruled that the truck driver from Afghanistan caused the three-vehicle pile up on the Towayeen-Dibba road on the 23rd of February by entering the road without making sure it was clear of traffic.

A Emirati was the first to crash his car against the truck and he died immediately.

Following closely behind was a third car with three UAE nationals on board, which was also unable to avoid colliding with the first two vehicles.

Two of the Emiratis on board the third car died at the scene with the third man taken to hospital in a serious condition.

After finding him guilty of causing the accident, the court awarded Dh200,000 to the families of each of the three dead men, as per Sharia law.
