Trio denies torturing cook suspected of theft
The three suspects admitted beating the man, but denied they had stubbed out cigarettes on his skin and kicked him in the groin.
Dubai: Three men have denied detaining a cook and torturing him because they suspected he had stolen a mobile phone.
The Indian suspects, who are all unemployed, pleaded not guilty, admittingonly to Presiding Judge Saeed Mohammad Al Barghout of the Dubai Court of First Instance that they had beaten the man.
The Public Prosecution charged 26-year-old A.P., 24-year-old T.P. and 25-year-old P.R. with detaining the 21-year-old Indian cook, K.S., against his will in a labour camp.
The trio was also charged with undressing him, kicking him in the groin, stubbing out cigarettes on his back, shaving his hair and torturing him with a knife which they heated in the oven.
"I returned from visiting a friend and there were five suspects, including my four roommates... Amongst them were the trio who forced me into the room and accused me of stealing one of their mobile phones.
"I denied their accusation, but they did not believe me and started beating me.
"Then they roped my arms, legs and neck and threw me down on the floor," the claimant said in his statement. He added that the suspects undressed him and kicked him in the genitals.
"They also stubbed out cigarettes on me and tortured me with the knife until I fainted... They woke me up by sprinkling water on me. I also discovered that they had shaved my hair," he said.
The victim told the court that he escaped by jumping out of a bathroom window.
