Dubai: Dubai Courts Department has launched the ‘Pay Through Border Points’ initiative that allows individuals who have financial commitments to the Dubai Civil Court, to pay at the airport and avoid travel bans or detention.

Individuals who face travel bans or arrest warrants after having failed to pay restitution in civil cases [only], can start paying their dues or obligations at Dubai International Airport thanks to the new initiative ‘Pay Through Border Points’ that was launched in a joint initiative on Wednesday.

“Dubai Courts Department [DCD] handles nearly 35,000 civil cases per year. On a weekly and monthly basis we have individuals getting detained at the airport or banned from travelling due to civil court orders. Such individuals are usually banned from travelling or have arrest warrants issued in their names for failing to pay their financial commitments in civil cases. Our initiative has been launched to speed up the travel process of those individuals. The initiative will assist those individuals to pay as they go and avoid any unwanted or unexpected surprises,” said Dr Ahmad Bin Hazim Al Suwaidi, DCD’s General Director.

‘Pay Through Border Points’ is a joint venture initiated by DCD, the General Directorate for Residency and Foreigners Affairs [GDRFA] in Dubai, Dubai Police and Emirates National Bank of Dubai [NBD].

“Today’s initiative came following the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to all government departments to join hands and work for the benefit of the UAE. It also came after the encouragement of Major General Mohammad Ahmad Al Merri, GDRFA’s director general. We are also ready to adopt any similar initiatives in the future,” Dr Al Suwaidi told a gathering of senior police and residency officers at the airport.

Major General Al Merri said the initiative’s main goal is to avoid stalling or delaying travellers.

“Rescheduling travel plans or cancellations are costly nowadays. This initiative has come to assist those individuals and avoid them any embarrassment. The initiative is also a major and significant strategic partnership with the parties involved,” he said.

Ebrahim Al Hosani, Director of DCD’s Execution Administration, said the concerned individuals can pay through credit cards, cheques or in cash at Emirates NBD branch at the airport.

“As soon as the individual pays the restitution, the travel ban or arrest warrant will be automatically lifted. Then the person can catch his flight without any unwanted delay,” said Al Hosani.
