Sharjah: Police have arrested three suspects at the Dubai airport while trying to flee with stolen jewellery worth half a million dirhams.

According to a senior official of Sharjah Police, the suspects were from Azerbaijan and had deceived a salesman of Dubai jewellery shop.

The Indian salesman filed a complaint at Buheira Police Station in Sharjah on Thursday saying although he worked at an outlet in Dubai, he had visited Sharjah in order to sell the jewellery to clients who had visited his shop.

The three suspects had, on a visit to the jewellery shop, asked the salesman to bring the items to their hotel to show their partner, who would pay for them. When the salesman went there, they took the jewellery and vanished.

Lieutenant Colonel Yousuf Al Naqbi, Director of Criminal and Investigation Department at Sharjah Police, said: "The owners of jewellery shops should be aware that there are gangs looking to steal. All employees and owners should be more aware and they should not allow customers to make payments anywhere except in the shop."

In cooperation with Dubai Police, the suspects were arrested at 3:30am on Friday at Dubai International Airport. The jewellery and diamonds were found hidden in their hand baggage.
