Sharjah: The Sharjah Police arrested a three-member gang on Monday for making and distributing counterfeit copies of pornographic films in a workers' accommodation.
An official at Sharjah Police said that the suspects from Bangladesh, who were staying illegally in the country, used a printer and scanner in their home to carry out the illegal activities.
"As soon as we were notified about the illegal activity of the suspects, a security team was formed from the Criminal Investigation Department to investigate the case," the official said.
Large haul
After locating the suspects' whereabouts, police raided their home and recovered a large quantity of fake CDs in their room.
"The gang was led by another Bangladeshi who rented out a room at a workers' accommodation in one of the industrial areas in Sharjah. He was paying each of the sub-tenants Dh800 per month to make copies of the pornographic movies," the official added.
Police are continuing the investigation to locate the gang's leader.
The suspects have been detained and will be referred to the Sharjah Public Prosecution.
