Police say three men were trying to sell 36kg marijuana worth Dh500,000
Dubai: Police said Saturday they foiled an attempt by a three-member gang to sell 36kg of marijuana, with an estimated value of Dh500,000, and arrested two of the gang members.
Major General Abdul Jalil Mahdi, Director of Dubai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Department, said the operation started in March but could not be announced earlier due to security concerns, as the alleged mastermind of the gang was still on the run.
Police received a tip-off in March about a GCC citizen, identified as F.B.M., who allegedly managed to smuggle the drugs into the UAE and was planning to sell it in cooperation with the two other suspects, identified as 28-year-old A.M.M., the first suspect, and 30-year-old M.B.S, the second suspect, both GCC citizens.
A team set a trap and an officer contacted F.B.M, the third suspect in the case, to buy the entire amount.
The first suspect contacted the officer and asked him to meet him at JBR to receive the goods.
Police said they arrested the first suspect while offloading the drugs from his car in a parking lot in JBR.
Police said he confessed that he was a friend a of the third suspect, who sent him the drugs to store and deliver later upon instructions. The third suspect sent another man, M.B.S., to take the drugs from the first, and he was also arrested.
Both suspects were referred to the Public Prosecution to face charges of possession and promotion of narcotics, while the hunt is ongoing for the third suspect.
