Abu Dhabi: A man who allegedly fled the country two years ago with Dh200,000 stolen from his employer was arrested few days ago after he returned on an apparently fake passport to work in another emirate.

An Abu Dhabi police official said, without revealing further details, that the arrest followed a tipoff.

The 26-year-old Indian, identified as S.S, was employed as a travel consultant with Space International Travels, a division of Emke Group.

"The amount [Dh200,000] was due to us and handed over to S.S. in good faith by our customers," a company official told Gulf News two years ago.

S.S was reported to the police as absconding after failing to report for work.

"In his statement to the police, S.S said that he purchased a fake passport from someone in another emirate and used it to travel to his home country. He then obtained another fake passport in his country and used it to travel back to the UAE," said the police official, who asked not to be named.
