Dubai:  An Emirati teenager has been acquitted of aiding his compatriot molest a British camper — who injured herself after jumping out of their car to escape being raped.

The Dubai Court of First Instance on Tuesday acquitted the 18-year-old suspect, E.A., of aiding and abetting his compatriot, S.K., molest and attempt to rape the Briton due to lack of evidence.

Moreover, Presiding Judge Al Saeed Mohammad Barghout, referred E.A. to the Public Prosecution which will later refer him to the proper court of jurisdiction to be tried for injuring the Briton, A.R., and driving without a licence.

According to records, A.R. was camping with her boyfriend, she had a fight with him and walked away from the campsite located in the middle of the desert.

She walked nearly six kilometres in the desert before she reached another campsite where a number of Emirati men were camping. One of the men drove her to a main road, before the suspects (E.A. and S.K.) picked her up and S.K. allegedly molested her and tried to rape her in the back seat of their car.

Prosecutors charged E.A. with aiding and abetting S.K. by keeping silent about the molestation, refusing to pull over and saving her from his compatriot.

S.K. has been charged with molestation and attempted rape and is currently being prosecuted before the Dubai Juveniles Court.

According to the charge sheet, 18-year-old E.A. has also been charged with accidentally injuring A.R. by not stopping his car when she asked him to do so — the Briton jumped out of the moving car and hurt herself.

E.A. denied the charges and pleaded not guilty when he defended himself earlier.

‘Molested'

"I quarrelled with my friend and walked away… one of the men from the other campsite drove me on his motorcycle to the main road. When I couldn't find a taxi, I agreed to the suspect's offer to take me to Dubai. While E.A. drove, S.K. asked to have sex with me but I refused. S.K. moved to the back seat and molested me. While he groped and kissed me, I asked E.A. to save me, but the latter didn't do anything and remained silent," claimed the Briton.

Records said the suspect drove off after she jumped out of the car.

A Yemeni first corporal testified that the Briton gave them the contact number of the motorcycle driver.

"We summoned him and he guided us to the suspects… after we detained E.A., the latter alleged that S.K. molested the claimant," he claimed.

Tuesday's primary judgment is still subject to appeal within 15 days.
