Dubai: Four suspects were arraigned in court after being nabbed in a sting operation while trying to sell drugs to an informant.

Three of the men from Africa denied possessing and attempting to sell marijuana and heroin when they appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance.

The fourth suspect 32-year-old Nigerian G.A., refused to confess or deny his charges due to language barriers. The judge adjourned the case until a translator is brought into court.

The Public Prosecution charged G.A., his two compatriots 30-year-old L.N. and 28-year-old O.K., and 29-year-old Ghanaian G.K., with possessing 350 grammes of marijuana and 2.32 grams of heroin which they intended to sell. The Ghanaian has been additionally charged with consuming tetra-hydro cannabinol, an active component of hashish.

L.N., G.K. and O.K. denied their charges and pleaded not guilty. An anti-narcotics police captain, who was among the officers who arrested the four visitors in a sting operation, said: "It's an informant who tipped the anti-narcotics police about the illegal deal." The court will assign lawyers to defend the suspects when it reconvenes soon.
