Dubai: A man is accused of taking Dh9,000 from a wallet after shedding tears and pretending to be a victim of crime himself.

A 46-year-old Afghan claimed in his statement, the suspect, D.I., and his three compatriots (who fled) offered him a lift, then stole from him and kicked him out of their moving car.

"D.I. asked the driver to drop him on the way& he returned in a few seconds. He had tears in his eyes and claimed one of us had stolen Dh20,000 from his pocket. He searched everybody but didn't find the money. I believed him and then asked him to return my wallet and he took Dh9,000 from my wallet then threw it in my face.. before one of the passengers kicked me out of the moving car."

The defendant on sunday pleaded not guilty before the Dubai Court of First Instance.
