Dubai: A man facing drug charges has died and three others suffered serious injuries in a suicide attempt at Al Qusais Police Station on Wednesday night, a police official told Gulf News.

The official, who requested anonymity, said the three Emiratis hanged themselves in their cell and a fourth prisoner, also an Emirati, set the cell on fire.

The official said the accused who died was identified as I.S., while his brother M.S — who also tried to hang himself — is fighting for his life in Rashid Hospital.

Another accused identified as H.K. — who also tried to hang himself — was taken to Rashid Hospital along with the fourth prisoner J. T who set the cell on fire.

Police said the three men, in their 20s, were in custody on drug charges. "This is not the first time the prisoners have tried to set Al Qusais Police Station on fire," the police official said.

Gulf News tried to contact senior Dubai Police officials but no one was available for comment.
