Dubai: A man was arrested in Sudan and handed over to Dubai Police under an Interpol warrant for his arrest for allegedly conning a UAE national out of more than Dh265,000.

The joint effort between Dubai Police and the Sudanese authorities succeeded in arresting the suspect. The suspect had conned a UAE national in 2002 claiming that he had diamond exploration tools and equipment for sale.

According to Lieutenant-General Salim Khalifa Al Rumaithi, Director of the Wanted Persons Section in the Criminal Investigation Department of Dubai Police, the UAE national filed a police report at Al Muraqqabat Police station in 2002 about the fraud.

The victim paid Dh265,000 for the exploration tools and equipment, but instead received empty boxes.

Based on his complaint, the Public Prosecution ordered the arrest of the criminal, who was deported from the country for a previous criminal offence. The Wanted Persons Section filed an arrest warrant.
