Ras Al Khaimah: An Emirati student died and his compatriot friend sustained serious injuries in an accident at Al Huwailat Street, Ras Al Khaimah, on Wednesday.
The friends, 16-year-old driver and his 15-year-old passenger, were heading home in a car after completing their exams when the accident took place, said the police.
The accident occurred due to speeding, said Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Ali, Chief of Al Munaie Police Station.
The driver couldn't control the vehicle, which crashed into a traffic signpost and fell into a ditch, said the police.
The medics pronounced the driver dead on the spot and rushed the passenger to a hospital where he has been admitted to the intensive care unit.
Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim urged parents to forbid underage children from driving vehicles, and never to hand their vehicles to those who do not hold proper and valid driving licence.
