Ajman: A stolen car belonging to an Emirati man registered on a speed camera on an Ajman highway not long after it went missing from a garage in broad daylight on Tuesday.

Colonel Ali Saeed Al Matroushi, Director-General of Police Operations, said Ajman Police launched an intensive investigation after the owner of the vehicle lodged a complaint with the Ministry of Interior saying that the police had been slow to get on the thief’s trail, especially after a radar captured him speeding on Al Helio Road at 6.30pm the day of the theft.

The owner of the car was identified as Mohammad Abdul Latif Al Beloushi, a government employee.

The vehicle was stolen within minutes after the owner had parked it in front of the workshop in the Ajman industrial area to repair scratches.

The owner told Gulf News that at around 2.30 pm when he went to pick up his vehicle he was shocked to find it had gone missing. He was informed by staff at the workshop that the vehicle was outside but he could not find it.

He reported that there were important official documents and original copies of the document in the car.

“I reported the incident immediately to the police, but they told me to check with the municipality as they might have pulled abandoned vehicles from the road.

“I went and checked with the municipality but it was only a waste of time, after that I returned to police at around 6.30pm and informed them that I received an SMS that a speed camera had caught my vehicle on Al Helio Road.”
