  • Geetha George, wife of Dr. Rajan Daniel, Junu, daughter, and Anurup, son-in-law are seen weeping during the last respects to Dr. Rajan Daniel on seeing his dead body at Shaikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

Abu Dhabi: While accompanying the slain doctor’s body to his home country yesterday evening, the family was haunted by the fact that his wish about his death was accomplished in a horribly unexpected way.

“The doctor used to say he wanted to take his last breath while attending to his patients but the way his wish was achieved will haunt us forever,” Dr Rajan Daniel’s wife, Geetha George, told Gulf News on Tuesday evening.

“He used to tell me he wanted to die while doing what he liked the most and dedicated his life for. But it is unbelievable a doctor who dedicated his life for his patients faced such a fate …” Geetha George wife told Gulf News.

She said his colleagues who visited her to offer condolences also said the doctor used to tell them he wanted to die while attending to his patients. “They are also upset at the way fate accomplished his wish,” Geetha George said.

Geetha said her tears had already dried up. “I am unable to cry any more.”

The body of the doctor was repatriated to Thiruvananthapuram, his hometown in the southern Indian state of Kerala, yesterday night (Wednesday). A large number of people paid their last respects to the departed before the repatriation. His wife, daughter Dr Junu and son-in-law, Dr Anurup, and a cousin, Ajith Kumar, accompanied the body to India.

Dr Daniel was allegedly murdered on Thursday evening at his consultation room at Ahalia Hospital in Abu Dhabi. His patient, M.A., 46, a Pakistani driver, allegedly committed the crime for not getting immediate relief from a painful disease he was suffering from, according to Abu Dhabi Police. Her son-in-law Dr Anurup said he did not know how to face his children [Dr. Daniel’s grandchildren] who still do not know about their grandfather’s death. Nimisha, 6, and Ammiel, 2 , are in India and eagerly waiting for their loving grandfather. They have been told by their parents that he had fallen sick in the UAE. The children and their mother Dr Junu had a nice time with Dr Daniel in Abu Dhabi a week ago. “While leaving here the children were suffering from a cold, so he [Dr Daniel] was calling them up every day to check their health.”

Dr Daniel wanted the daughter and son-in-law to come and work in the same hospital in the UAE “because he liked this country and Ahalia Hospital very much. All such dreams have been shattered,” Anurup said.

Geetha said, “He died while serving his patient. I sincerely hope this doesn’t happen to anybody else and everyone else will take enough precautions after this experience.”

I can't help but cry with the family! He read the Bible as a rare case, for 30 minutes before facing this tragic end! May God give the bereaved with peace and strength to face this most tragic and unexpected encounter of life. Our love and prayers for the family.

Very shocking incident to occur in the UAE. I wonder what the man was thinking while mudering the doctor in his consultation room at the hospital. I hope he faces the full force of the law. May the doctor RIP.
