Police arrest group of Asians suspected of involvement in gambling in public places
The suspects were arrested after a tip-off, claiming a group of Asians were involved in illegal gambling in public places.
A police team was formed to investigate and officers raided areas where the gang was suspected to be operating.
The police arrested six Bangladeshi men, who all admitted to being involved in gambling.
During interrogation, they confessed to the crime and said they were targeting labourers to make some quick cash.
Three of the men arrested were also violating the UAE residency law.
Colonel Dr Abdul Kader Al Ameri, acting director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Sharjah Police, said:“Sharjah Police have intensified their efforts to end violation of the country’s residency laws. That can only be achieved with the full cooperation of law-abiding residents and through the media and community.”
Colonel Dr Al Ameri has also called on the public to report any crimes or offences that threaten the security of society.
