Sharjah: Police on Wednesday rescued a Pakistani man who was kidnapped and held for ransom by nine suspects in an apartment in Al Shuwaiheen area.

A senior officer of the Sharjah Police told Gulf News, they were able to track down the victim's whereabouts three hours after receiving a complaint from a certain Mohammad A. The officer said the police immediately formed a team that immediately mounted a rescue operation to free the victim from his captors, who allegedly demanded a Dh10,000 ransom.

Police raided the apartment and found the victim tied up in a room.

He told the police that he was severely beaten and had been threatened with death.

The abductors — all Pakistanis — were also arrested when police stormed the residence.

"The abductors said they kidnapped the victim because he owed them money, but the victim denied all the allegations and said he never saw those men before,' said the official.

Confession

During interrogation, the suspects confessed that they conspired to carry out the kidnapping and that they wanted to divide the ransom among themselves. Police also found out that four of the suspects were infiltrators. The case has been referred to Sharjah Public Prosecution.
