Sharjah: Sharjah Police have arrested a man for beating and sexually assaulted a six-year-old schoolgirl in the elevator of a building in Maysloon area of Sharjah on Sunday, Police official said on Sunday.

The suspect identified as Mohammad H.M from Bangladesh, entered the lift on seeing the little girl trying to take the lift to her apartment, the man soon started to assault the girl by trying to touch and force himself on her, when she resisted he beat her.

The Sharjah Criminal Investigation Department formed a team after the girl’s parents filed a complaint with police saying that their six-year–old daughter was assaulted and beaten by an unknown person in the elevator of their building in Maysaloon.

Police begun its investigations with single men working in home delivery shops and restaurants, a Bangladesh man was soon matching with the features described by the girl and when the girl saw him she emphasised he was the one.

“The girl was rescued by the lift door opening and she ran out and told her parents who called the police immediately,” he said.

The man later admitted his crimes and has been referred to prosecutors.

Police have urged parents not to let children especially young girls stay out for long or move on their own even to groceries and shops without a family companion.
