Sharjah: A four-member gang was yesterday arrested in connection with the Damas jewellery store robbery in Sharjah.
The four (all Pakistani nationals) are accused of stealing 10 kilograms of gold worth about Dh2 million from the store in Al Rolla area.
The suspects were arrested as they were preparing to leave the country early on Wednesday, Brigadier Abdullah Mubarak Al Dukhan, Deputy Director of Sharjah Police, told Gulf News.
Based on fingerprints collected from the store, police zeroed in on a man in Ajman, identified as R.S.A. "The suspect was deported twice, but entered the country illegally earlier this year," Brig Al Dukhan said.
Taxi drivers held
His arrest led police to another suspect M.S.M. Both men confessed to having robbed the store with two accomplices.
With the cooperation of Dubai Police, the accomplices B.H.M and A.M.A, who work as taxi drivers, were arrested.
Police found the gold hidden in the apartments of two of the suspects — in Al Satwa and Al Nahda.
The suspects divided the loot and planned to travel to a neighbouring country.
The case has been transferred to Sharjah Public Prosecution.
