During the last three weeks of Ramadan, 90 Arab and Asian beggars between the ages of 40 and 50 were arrested by Sharjah Police. All of the beggars were illegal residents who initially entered the country on a visit visa, and have been detained at the Immigration Department where they will be deported.
Over 40 men were also arrested for illegally selling mobile phones. The vendors sold their goods in residential, commercial and industrial areas, in addition to mosques.
Police also arrested three Asian vendors selling mobile phones who were found selling pornography films in residential areas.
Lt Col Yousuf Moussa Al Naqbi, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said the campaign carried during Ramadan was aimed at illegal residents and urged the public to notify the police if they suspected anyone of carrying out illegal activities.
