Sharjah: Twelve illegal leaflet distributors have been arrested in the space of three days following orders by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to crack down on offenders.

The instruction was given on Wednesday via the popular Sharjah programme Al Khat Al Munasher. (Direct Line)

Sharjah Police were told to arrest individuals and company owners who placed flyers or leaflets on residents’ doors and cars. The accused will be deported if found guilty.

The 12 men of Asian and African nationality were arrested while they were distributing advertising stickers in various parts of the city.

Colonel Jihad Sahoo, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Sharjah Police, said that Sharjah Police will intensify its campaign to monitor and track down violators.

He called on community members to cooperate with law enforcement officers to report violators and hand them over to police.

Brigadier Abdullah Mubarak Al Dukhan, deputy director of Sharjah Police, has praised the Sharjah Ruler’s instruction, assuring it will be strictly implemented, adding the practice of distributing advertisements in such a way is unacceptable. He added such violations are predominantly committed by those who are staying in the country illegally.

Al Dukhan blamed residents for helping such people in printing and placing the advertisements as they were aiding them in their crime rather than reporting them.

“Anyone found placing such advertisements will be arrested and will be prosecuted according to the Sharjah Ruler’s instructions.”
