Sharjah: Police have arrested a gang of men suspected of posing as policemen to rob big diesel companies in Sharjah.

Sharjah Police swooped down on six Pakistani suspects following night-time attacks in which money and diesel were taken from several big companies in Sharjah.

Police said the thieves posed as policemen and carried out their crimes. The gang assaulted the watchmen of the companies and stole the diesel as well as money deposit boxes.

Owners of companies lodged complaints with the police reporting the thefts.

The police formed a team to track down the suspects and arrested them. The police team reached one of the suspects first and arrested him and he led them to his partners. The suspects were arrested in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Police and Al Ain Police.

The suspects have allegedly admitted to their crimes.

Police investigations revealed that five of the suspects were staying in the country illegally.

The case has been refered to the public prosecution for further action.

Sharjah Police urged owners of companies to secure their premises and install alarm systems as well as surveillance cameras.

Gulf News on November 9 reported that Sharjah Police had launched a manhunt to arrest an eight-member gang suspected of stealing a tanker loaded with 13,000 gallons of diesel from Al Safi company in Al Saja’a as well as stealing a Toyota Corolla car, cash and cheques,

An official from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said the gang members, all Asian, ran away after committing their crime.

The security guards in the company reported the incident to police who moved immediately to the scene of the incident .

The suspects ran away before the matter was reported to the police.

Police managed to arrest four of them while emptying the diesel from the tanker and are still searching for the rest.

The police said the complaint was reported to the operation room on Saturday night.

Al Saja’a area has recently witnessed a number of theft and fatal incidents over the sale of diesel.

In September, one man killed and two injured in fighting over the sale of diesel in Al Saja’a. One of the injured is still in Al Qasimi Hospital receiving treatment.

In April, two men were stabbed to death while five others were injured in a brawl after an argument over selling diesel turned violent.

The fight erupted in Al Saja’a industrial area among a group of men from the same nationality .
