Sharjah court pardons 17 men on death row
Ruling comes after victim's family accepts Dh3.4m in blood money

Sharjah: The 17 Indian men on death row for the murder of a Pakistani man were yesterday pardoned by a Sharjah court after the victim's family agreed to accept Dh3.4 million in blood money.
However, the 17 convicts will have to wait at least till September 12 to be released as the court adjourned the case till that date because a case in the civil court might yet affect their release.
The 17 men were arrested on charges of murdering Misri Nazir Khan in the Saaja industrial area of Sharjah in January 2009, following a dispute between two rival gangs involved in bootlegging.
Mohammad Ramzan, the representative of the victim's family received the money in court.
A UAE-based businessman S.P. Singh Oberoi, one of the key mediators, brought the entire blood money in a blue bag to the court.
Singh deposited the money at the Sharjah Court of Appeal to transfer it to the family in Pakistan.
