Dubai: Seven Emirati men have been arrested following an assault on members of the Kuwaiti jet ski team taking part in the fourth round of the UAE Jet Ski Championship at Umm Suqeim Beach.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, instructed police to identify and arrest all those involved in the attack on Saturday.

Police on Friday arrested four of the attackers, and three more were arrested on Saturday.

The suspects, aged between 20 and 25 years, have been referred to Public Prosecution for legal action, Major General Khamis Matar Al Mazeinah, Deputy Dubai Police Chief, said, adding that no lenience will be shown to the people who attacked the Kuwaiti guests of the UAE.

Six Kuwaitis sustained slight injuries in the attack and were all discharged from hospital after receiving treatment, he said, adding that an earlier dispute between a Kuwaiti competitor and an Emirati took place during the third round of the championship, which took placed in Abu Dhabi a few weeks ago.

The assault took place during the break after the first match of the competition, according to a statement by the Dubai Marine Sports Club.

The assault came as a reaction to an earlier dispute, the statement said, adding that the club regrets this attack against the Kuwaiti guests.
