Sharjah: A senior Sharjah police officer is under investigation for allegedly taking a bribe of Dh2 million, Gulf News has learnt.

Police sources told Gulf News that a brigadier identified as Y.M.N. with the Criminal and Investigation Department has been arrested. The officer was admitted to a private hospital after suffering a heart attack while he was in police custody.

"The police official allegedly took the bribe from an Arab expat," the source said.

The order to arrest the police official was passed by high authorities in the emirate and the Ministry of Interior.

Sources close to the accused said he collapsed while in detention. The officer was transferred to a private hospital in Dubai.

"He used to suffer from heart problems two years ago," a police official said.

The police officer was arrested early this month. The bribe accusation is part of primary investigations.
