Salesman jailed for 15 years for raping woman at party

Dubai: A salesman has been jailed for 15 years for raping a woman who blacked out following a round of heavy drinking during a party at his villa.

The Dubai Court of First Instance found the 47-year-old salesman, A.S., guilty of raping 30-year-old, J.M., on his bed after he punched her twice and stripped her naked.

According to Sunday’s judgement the accused will be deported following the completion of his punishment.

Prosecutors had asked for the implementation of the death penalty against him.

When the defendant appeared in court he pleaded not guilty, alleging the intercourse was consensual.

Court records said the Indian salesman abused the fact that J.M. a Filipina, drank heavily before she collapsed on a couch during a party he threw at his villa in Jumeirah.

He was said to have assaulted J.M. when she tried to resist him.

An Emirati policeman claimed that following A.S.’s arrest, the defendant accused J.M. of being a prostitute and that they had consensual sex.

The Filipina testified that she and her countrywoman friend, S.D., were invited to the party.

“When I got drunk around midnight, I sat on a couch to rest… in the morning I found myself in the bed and A.S. slept beside me. When I asked him about S.D., he claimed that she left. He punched me twice because I refused to respond to his sexual advances. Then he pinned me down on the bed… I cried and begged him to leave me alone. He left the room after he raped me. I found the door locked when I tried to walk out. I stayed in the room and I was surprised when S.D. woke me up later. She helped me dress and we went to the hospital,” J.M. said.

S.D. testified that when she woke up in the morning she spotted injuries on A.S.’ arms.

“He claimed he scuffled with J.M. but never mentioned why. I walked behind him to the bedroom and saw my friend unconscious. She was naked on the bed and had blood and injuries on her body. When I woke her up, she cried and claimed to me that A.S. raped her. We reported it to the police,” S.D. told prosecutors.

Sunday’s judgment remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
