Dubai: A 22-year-old domestic helper who allegedly killed her colleague and was herself stabbed with a knife has been stabilised and moved out of Rashid Hospital’s intensive care unit, Dubai Police said.

The recovering housemaid, identified as F.Y.A, attempted to hurt herself during the night at the hospital by banging her head against the wall as her mental and psychological condition was bad.

It is still unknown when the woman will be interrogated as she has to undergo a full medical and psychological assessment, according to police.

The two Ethiopian housemaids were involved in a bloody fight on Monday which ended with one of them dying, but not before stabbing her colleague with a knife.

Police earlier said that they received a call on Monday morning from residents of a villa in Bur Dubai saying that two housemaids had locked themselves up in the laundry room and were fighting and yelling.

Upon arriving at the villa and breaking open the door of the room, the two women were found lying in a pool of blood, Brigadier Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Director of Criminal Investigation Department, said.

The two women were taken to hospital. One of them died on the way, while the other was admitted in the intensive care unit in a critical condition.

The victim, identified as H.S.S., received multiple stabs by a meat skewer, while F.Y.A. received knife stabs.

The reason behind the fight is still unknown, and the two had no previous fights according to eye witnesses, who said F.Y.A. was unstable and paranoid. There are 12 domestic helpers in the household.
