Dubai: Four people were convicted of sex-related offences in separate trials on Wednesday, in which the offenders were given prison terms of up to seven years.

The cases ranged from rape, consensual sex to child molestation. A judge sentenced a 42-year-old Jordanian manager to seven years in prison on Wednesday after he was found guilty of raping a 26-year-old Filipina in January.

Court records show he tricked her into coming to a Dubai hotel under the guise of attending a party. However, when she arrived it was just him in the room.

“He had given me something to drink that clouded my thinking and weakened me enough for him to strip me of my clothes and rape me,” the young Filipina testified. The Jordanian man will be deported after serving his sentence.

In another case, a 22-year-old Bangladeshi convicted of molesting an 11-year-old girl in the child’s home was sentenced to a year in prison. The man was hired by the child’s parents to teach her how to recite the Quran. According to the parents, the teacher kissed the child and cupped her breasts on three different occasions as well as her thighs as a “reward” for memorising verses of the Quran.

In the third case, a 27-year-old Bangladeshi cleaner convicted of molesting a six-year-old girl in a Jumeirah restaurant’s toilet two months ago was sentenced to one year in prison followed by deportation.

Medical reports reported finding traces of the accused’s semen around the girl’s private parts.

The fourth convict was an Indonesian maid who surrendered to the police following a failed abortion attempt.

She was sentenced to a year in prison followed by deportation for prostituting herself, having consensual sex as well as attempting abortion.
