Abu Dhabi: The UAE Attorney General on Sunday said that investigations into activities of several Islamists, arrested over the past few months on charges of plotting against the UAE, have revealed plans to threaten national security.

“Initial investigations and confessions of the suspects revealed plans that jeopardise the security of the state, as well as [the existence of] ties between the organisation’s members and suspicious foreign parties and organisations,” said Ali Salem Al Tunaiji, the Attorney General at the Federal Prosecutor General’s office.

The Public Prosecution’s interrogation of the members of the organisation is still under way, as the suspects are still in custody, Al Tunaiji added.

He warned against false news reports and rumours being spread by parties who seek to influence the fair investigations into the case.

Al Tunaiji stressed that results of the investigations will be made public by the Public Prosecution upon completion of the probe.
