Abu Dhabi: A private school worker allegedly confessed to molesting a seven-year-old student here after the victim told her mother about the incident, Abu Dhabi Police reported today.
Sources told Gulf News that the victim reached home with blood on her clothes. When asked about this, she said that an Asian man had touched her.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested the 56-year-old Indian suspect who works as a janitor last Sunday.
Police investigations revealed that the accused confessed to sexually molesting the child and took advantage of her while she was alone in the school’s kitchen.
According to Col Dr Rashid Mohammad Borshid, director of the CID, a form filled out by the Social Support Centre in Abu Dhabi says the degree of molestation of the girl’s body was 70 per cent.
“The suspect told the police that he did not know the girl’s name but could identify her if he was to see her. He also confessed to his crime. Investigations are still going on to find out what exactly took place,” Borshid added.
An investigation team was sent by the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) this (Tuesday) morning to investigate the alleged abuse, the Adec announced in a statement.
The Adec also met with pupils’ parents at the private school to reassure them that the necessary measures were being taken to safeguard children’s safety. They also said that the investigation will be conducted at the earliest.
In the meantime, Adec officials are coordinating with all relevant entities. Legal guarantees and action will be taken according to the recently issued guidelines by Adec’s Private School and Quality Assurance division. Regulations under Chapter Five stipulate that private schools are responsible for the moral and physical protection of all pupils.
Maj Gen Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary-General of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, urged school officials to increase supervision of their students to prevent such painful incidents from occurring.
