Policeman receives jail sentence after molesting girl in backseat of car
A policeman has been jailed for molesting a 14-year-old girl in the back seat of his car after meeting her over the internet.
Dubai: A policeman has been jailed for molesting a 14-year-old girl in the back seat of his car after meeting her over the internet.
The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the 27-year-old Omani defendant, identified as H.H., to one year in jail after the young girl's parents waived their charges. H.H. will be deported after serving his term.
The Public Prosecution had charged him with molesting the 14-year-old UAE national victim, M.B., after she agreed to meet with him and he picked her up in his car.
In her statement to the public prosecution the girl confessed that she met the policeman in an internet chat room.
On the day of the incident, she said he called her on the telephone and asked her to go out with him. Then he picked her up from her house at around 11pm that evening.
The girl said the accused switched off his car lights and parked his vehicle at the edge of the road. While she sat in the back seat, he molested her.
She saw her brother passing by and the accused then dropped her back home, she alleged in her statement. The court was adjourned until later this month.
The defence lawyer handed the parent's waiver to the court and maintained that the girl had consented to H.H.'s actions.
A policeman said in his court statement, "The girl called him earlier by mistake. Later, they met and when they were in the defendant's car, she jumped into the backseat and asked him to join her. There was no intercourse, it was just a molestation."
The verdict is still subject to appeal.
