Ras Al Khaimah: An unidentified person burnt the newly installed speed radar on Ghaleila road of Ras Khaimah on the early hours on Wednesday, a police officer told Gulf News.

Lieutenant Colonel Saleh Salem Al Shimali Director of the Directorate General of Central Operations, Acting Command Ras Al Khaimah Police, said the radar was installed only three days ago.

Several accidents occurred at this location in the last few months.

No suspect yet

The operation room of Ras Al Khaimah police received a tip from a local caller alerting them of the radar fire, first of its kind in the UAE.

"We dont know the suspect in the current case and have no idea about his or her motivation," he said.

He said the police have cracked down on violators by increased patrolling on the streets.

The person responsible for burning the radar will be arrested soon. He or she will be punished according to the UAE law.
