Sharjah: Investigation is under way into a robbery where a man is believed to have broken into a Sharjah supermarket and stolen money, a wallet and weighing scales on Tuesday morning.

Sharjah Police sources have confirmed the incident.

Gulf News visited Deba Supermarket in Al Wahda street where the robbery occurred. The supermarket’s glass door was broken and there was dried blood on the pavement in front of the shop, on two cars parked in front and on a big piece of glass that was resting on the wall.

A worker at the supermarket Mohammad Samir claimed that the incident must have occurred at night because when he and other employees came to open the shop, they found the glass broken and blood everywhere.

Samir said that his wallet was stolen from the shop along with some money from the register and weighing scales. He added that he found an ID card in the shop that he thought belonged to the thief and handed it over to the police.

Blood stains

He said the thief may have spilled blood when he broke the glass. However, police sources said the blood had nothing to do with the robbery.

Mustafa Sadaqat, owner of a car that had blood stains, said that when he got down in the morning to get to work, he found police near his car collecting evidence, and told him not to move the vehicle. “The police were here at around 7am.”

Sadaqat added that there was a crowbar next to the blood-stained cars that the police took as evidence.
