Sharjah: Police have arrested two men for allegedly robbing a woman after she withdrew over Dh142,000 from a bank.

A senior official at Sharjah Police told Gulf News that the incident occurred last Wednesday when a Filipina employee went to the bank to collect workers' salaries.

"The woman was accompanied by a Pakistani driver, who also worked for the company. After she withdrew the cash and entered the car, a man then ran towards the car, tied the driver up with rope and threatened to kill the woman with a knife," said the official. "The suspect then ran away with the money."

During the investigation police retrieved phone records and discovered that the driver, identified as M.M.G, had planned the robbery. Once the suspect was called in for questioning, the Pakistani man confessed that he carried out the crime with an acquaintance.

The suspect explained to police that he drove the Filipina at the end of every month to collect the salaries and knew that she was collecting about Dh100,000.

He planned to use the stolen money as capital for a new business venture, in which he would purchase vehicles and sell them in his home country. On the day of the crime, the second suspect was in communication with the driver and was present at the bank minutes before he arrived with the Filipina.

The second suspect watched them entering the bank and withdrawing the money. When they returned to the car, he attacked them by jumping in the back seat of the car.
