Dubai: Two infiltrators with a criminal record, who once again carried out a sophisticated robbery, were arrested while they were trying to escape to Iran with Dh 4 million.

Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Acting Chief of Dubai Police, said that due to the continuous efforts of the criminal investigation department of Dubai Police — and the cooperation extended by Fujairah Police, armed forces and the border and costal guards — the suspects were identified and arrested in record time.

The robbery took place a week ago when Iranian and Iraqi suspects targeted a commercial building in Al Muraqqabat, Brigadier Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Director of the General Department for Criminal Investigations, said.

At night, the two suspects broke into an office apartment on the fourth floor, which was being operated by a legal accountant, Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Humaid Al Merri, Director of the Criminal Investigation Division with Dubai Police, said.

They used a rope from the window of an office on the fourth floor to the window of an apartment — operating as a money exchange office — on the third floor of the same building.

They carried out the operation from the back of the building due to easy access to the apartment. "The suspects took advantage of the loop-hole in the security procedures by breaking into the apartment from its window," Brig. Al Mansouri said.

They made two medium-sized holes in two large safes — present at the Ominyat Money Exchange office — to steal Dh4 million, Lt Col Al Merri said.

Following investigations, the owner of the money exchange office identified one of the suspects provided by Dubai Police, Lt Col Al Merri said.

The suspects were arrested two days ago and confessed to robberies in other emirates, Brig Al Mansouri said.

Initiative: Security campaign

The Criminal Investigation Department of Dubai Police will conduct a campaign on money exchange stores by inspecting them for security loopholes, a senior official said.

Brigadier Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Director of General Department of Criminal Investigations of Dubai Police, said the campaign will initially provide a feedback to financial houses to maintain security logistics, if loopholes are detected. The campaign will be followed up with a second visit to ensure the stores comply with the security measures outlined by the police department.
