Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Police have arrested a man suspected of killing an Emirati in his villa in the capital last month after the latter asked him to have sex with him.

During an interrogation, the 27-year-old suspect confessed to the police that he stabbed the 40-year-old victim several times before running away from the villa, Colonel Hamad Ahmad Al Hamadi, Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Abu Dhabi Police said.

The murder took place on December 27 when the suspect and the Emirati, who used to drink together, went to the victim's villa where the latter asked the suspect to have sex with him, Col Al Hamadi said.

"The suspect got angry and engaged in a fight with the victim who picked up a knife from the kitchen and tried to stab him. The suspect, however, managed to grab the knife and stabbed the victim several times in his abdomen and back resulting in his death," he said.

"He then fled the scene after throwing the knife next to the body and locking the door of the room where they had the fight as he was afraid the victim might come after him.

"The suspect was arrested with the help of the building's investor and he is currently under provisional detention until further investigation," Col Al Hamadi said.

The accused has admitted to stabbing the man but said that he didn't intend to kill him but only defend himself

Col Al Hamadi urged the public to choose their friends well, and has appealed to all parents to keep a close eye on their children and help prevent them from falling victims or getting involved in crimes.

Under the penal code, anyone convicted of premeditated murder shall be given death penalty.
