Police arrest six for smuggling luxury cars
Police have arrested six Omanis for stealing and smuggling cars out of the UAE.
Sharjah: Police have arrested six Omanis for stealing and smuggling cars out of the UAE.
They said car dealers had made it easy for the gang to take the cars as they had left the keys in the ignition of the vehicles. In total the gang of six sped off with twelve cars.
Lieutenant Colonel Yousuf Al Naqbi, director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Sharjah Police, on Monday said that all the areas where the thefts happened did not have security guards or CCTV.
"It's ignorance on the part of car dealers and owners," he said.
According to Lt Col Al Naqbi, several complaints were lodged by car dealers in Abu Shagara particularly regarding four-by-four luxury vehicles.
Incriminating evidence
"Upon an investigation launched by Sharjah Police, we were eventually led to the arrest of two people, that of M.M. Murad and A.A.A, who were both found in Al Ain and in possession of one of the stolen cars."
The incriminating evidence led to their arrest.
During a police investigation it was revealed by these two suspects that they would go around looking for cars with keys in the ignition at the used car market in Abu Shagara.
The stolen cars were then smuggled across the UAE border to nearby countries, however, the police refused to disclose which countries they were smuggled to.
The case has since been referred to Sharjah Public Prosecution.
