Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi police in the West region of Al Gharbiya have arrested a gang of six Asians suspected of stealing 298 solar energy panels, valued at Dh800,000, from an oil company.

The suspects removed the panels from the oil fields using screw drivers, iron cutters and knives.

"The robbery took place during the night, while the guard was absent from his post. The suspects managed to cut and remove the iron fence that surrounds the facility," said Colonel Mohammad Awadi Al Menhali, Human Resources Director and Acting General Director of Operations.

"An investigating team was immediately formed to gather information in order to reveal the crime details and identify the criminals," said Al Menhali.

Initial investigations by the western region police revealed secret information about the gang and coordinated a plan with Abu Dhabi police to arrest them," added Al Menhali

Four suspects were arrested: A.A., 30-years-old, G.KH, 33-years-old, S.A.S, 25-years-old and M.N.M and the crime tools were confiscated," said Hamad Al Daheri, Director of Western Region Police.

The police recovered 66 of the solar panels that the gang were trying to sell in Musafah, and the rest were smuggled out of the UAE. The police continue the search for the remaining panels

Al Dhaheri called for all people and institutions in the region to secure their belongings and coordinate with the police to take necessary precautions.
