Dubai: The five-month-old baby boy with a neural disability who was abandoned in Latifa Hospital will be reunited with his parents soon, according to Dubai Police.
Colonel Mohammad Al Murr, Director of the Dubai Police Human Rights Department, said the Emirati father was finally convinced to take his son home after being persuaded by the department that the child needed the care of his parents.
The parents were also threatened with legal action if they failed to take their son home and provide sufficient care, as it was their legal and moral obligation.
The boy's father will visit the Human Rights Department on Tuesday to sign an undertaking that he will take care of his son, Col Al Murr said.
The family was offered financial assistance by the department as the parents had another child with mental disability, but they turned down the offer.
Social workers from the Women and Child Rights Protection section of the department will visit the family twice a month to ensure that the baby is taken care of and the family is coping well, Col Al Murr said.
The baby was born three months prematurely in Dubai Hospital in September and had to be transferred to Latifa Hospital to undergo surgery for breathing difficulties.
The parents claimed that the surgery at Latifa Hospital left him with neurological problems and epilepsy.
The father stopped visiting the baby in October and the mother in December, although the baby was healthy enough to be discharged and taken home.
Police advised the parents to seek legal assistance if they believed the child's disability was caused by medical malpractice.
