Officers at police station rebuffed me, woman claims
police turned down a woman's complaint against people who broke into her mother's house after falsifying rent contracts.
Dubai: A police turned down a woman's complaint against people who broke into her mother's house after falsifying rent contracts.
Instead, the woman was asked by officials at the Bur Dubai Police Station to go and complain about the issue over the radio, and they even gave her the station's telephone number, she claimed.
"I went to Bur Dubai police station several times last month, in order to report about a case where some people broke into my mother's house at Al Qouz area, but the officers gave me a hard time by refusing to record the complaint," Naeema told Gulf News.
The woman, who lives in Bahrain, said she has been visiting the country often, to help her ageing mother in sorting out the burglary case.
Right to report
Lieutenant Colonel Saleh Al Rahoomi, Director of Bur Dubai Police station, said it is not acceptable by the police to refuse any complaints from public.
"People have the right to report crimes to police and we have to investigate. It is not acceptable to tell people to raise their issues on the radio," he said.
Lt Col Al Rahoomi said the woman's complaint is under investigation.
"We are investigating the issue now. We will question those people who broke into the villa and who made the fake rent contracts," he said.
Naeema said that last month she came to see her mother and went to check on the villa, but was surprised to see that it had been rented to a private company.
"I tried to explain to the police that I do not know any of those who broke in to my mother's house and that we did not rent the villa to anyone but they refused to listen to my pleas," she said.
