Abu Dhabi: A nanny believed to have been illegally empolyed was in the apartment when her employer's three-year-old child apparently slipped through the window and fell to his death, the police here said.

On January 19, the Emirati child A.T. fell from the 13th floor of a high-rise building in Khalidiya and died instantly.

The victim was believed to have slipped through a narrow window opening. A.T. was living with his divorced mother and the nanny, reported to have been illegally employed, a police official told Gulf News.

"The Indonesian maid was interrogated since she was the only one in the apartment at the time. She has denied any involvement," said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Colonel Maktoum Ali Al Sharifi, director of the Abu Dhabi Police Criminal Investigation Department, had earlier said that negligence may have led to the child's death.

"The nanny is being interrogated not specifically about negligence but because she was working illegally," said an official source. The mother of the child will also face legal procedures for employing the nanny, who was not under her sponsorship, he added.
