Abu Dhabi: A woman who was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband might be a victim of honour killing, according to a police official close to the investigation.
As Gulf News had reported earlier, on June 27, a Sudanese man allegedly stabbed his wife to death in their apartment in Shabiya Khalifa in Musaffah. The husband was arrested shortly after on charges of murder.
The 50-year old man was the second husband to the 35-year old victim, I.A.A.
"The murder was a brutal one. The woman had injuries in her neck and chest and all over her body. She was stabbed violently several times," said the official, who spoke on a condition of anonymity.
Rare incident
The husband said in his statement to the police that he suspected his wife had committed adultery. "It appears to be a case of honour killing, which is very rare in the UAE," the official said. According to the police, no efforts were made to hide the body of the victim.
"The man said in his statement that two days before the incident his wife went to Sharjah. He too went to Sharjah and asked her where she was in order to meet her.
"The wife replied that she was in Ajman. When the man offered to meet her in Ajman, the wife declined and stopped answering his calls." She later returned home in Abu Dhabi, where she was murdered.
The investigation continues.
