Dubai: A court on Sunday dropped a murder attempt case against a worker, who stabbed his coworker with a knife when they scuffled over the remote control, after they reconciled.

The Dubai Court of First Instance dismissed the case against the 56-year-old Indian worker, S.B., after he provided the court with a written waiver that he obtained from his 52-year-old countryman, K.S.

Prosecutors charged S.B. of trying to kill K.S. with a knife and stabbing him in his belly.

Court records said divine care and swift medical intervention helped save the life of the victim.

Forensic doctors confirmed that the stab wound could have caused the victim’s death.

K.S., an insulation worker, testified that S.B. stabbed him with a knife because they quarreled over the remote control in their residence in Dubai Investment Park.

“We scuffled over the remote control that was wrecked by the suspect. We indulged in a heated argument before the suspect attacked me. He stabbed me in my belly… he also injured me behind my ear. The defendant hid the knife under his bed,” K.S. claimed to prosecutors.

An Indian witness said S.B. and K.S. were drunk when the incident happened.

“K.S. asked S.B. to buy a new remote control after he wrecked the old one. They fought and S.B. stabbed K.S. with a knife that was hidden under his bed. He had bought the knife from a supermarket because he constantly quarreled with the victim. I heard the defendant threatening to assault K.S. several times before the incident. He injured him behind his ear and absconded and took the knife with him. We informed the police… the suspect was detained immediately after that,” the witness claimed.

An Emirati police corporal said the defendant was arrested outside the labour accommodation where the incident happened.
